A Season-Long Plan for Lasting Disease Control
Keeping almond trees healthy from year to year is no small feat, but with the right disease management plan in place, your trees can grow strong and yield strong every season. Read on to see how our strategic fungicide solutions can protect your trees — and your profit potential — from dormancy to harvest.
The U.S. is the largest producer of almonds — 80% of the world's supply comes from California
U.S.-grown almonds are shipped to over 90 countries around the world
Almond trees go dormant from November to February. During this time, the trees spend their days storing nutrients and energy for spring, while the soils in the orchard hold onto moisture. Many key diseases can creep in at this stage before bloom, so using a preventive fungicide like Orondis® to reduce inoculum potential and improve root health will help set your trees up for success. With excellent preventive fungicidal activity and residual disease control, protection from Orondis can improve root mass, facilitate better water and nutrient use, improve root health and ultimately increase yield and profit potential.

Almond trees bud and begin to bloom from mid-February through March. The period from pink bud to petal fall is the most critical time for preventing disease, so multiple fungicide applications at different stages will help to ensure a high level of protection. At the pink bud stage, Vangard® WG fungicide inhibits the growth of pathogens within plant tissue, while an application of Miravis® Prime fungicide at full bloom will help dial up your defense against even the most damaging diseases.

When the spring rains cease and the temperatures rise from March to June, almond trees are hard at work as maturing kernels grow to full size and develop a hard shell and outer hull. During this time of growth, an application of Miravis® Duo fungicide supports continued disease protection while also helping to improve almond quality and yield.

In the heat of July, almond hulls begin to split open — and it’s a prime time for disease like hull rot to attack. At this stage, applying a robust fungicide like Quadris Top® offers preventive, systemic and curative activity on a wide spectrum of diseases, giving your trees a boost of protection and a better chance at improving yield potential.

After fully-grown almonds have been dried and harvested from August through October, applying another round of root-boosting Orondis fungicide will help support your trees’ root health as they transition back into dormancy for the winter. With excellent preventive fungicidal activity and residual disease control, protection from Orondis can improve root mass, facilitate better water and nutrient use, improve root health and ultimately increase yield and profit potential.
Trees often struggle to maximize their genetic potential in the face of pathogens and environmental stressors including extreme temperatures, drought, humidity, deficit irrigation and mechanical harvest. Plants naturally react to stress by redirecting internal resources for vegetative and reproductive growth, which can be counterproductive for long-term tree health.
